0.9.0 - Spectate and Rewards

Hey Curveballers!

Since last patch we have been overhauling core system, such as the ball and abilities to make everything feel much nicer. It’s still in progress so this patch doesn’t have much content, but we made sure to add some nice features in parallell.

  • Gameplay
    • Balance
    • Dev Note: Players often put themselves in potentially risky positions when trying to reach pickups. The goal is to make cooldown reduction pickups rewarding enough to justify the risk. With these changes, the pickup will guarantee that players can use their dash immediately after collecting it, and it will also have a greater impact on other abilities that are on cooldown.
      • Increased CD reduction pickup value from 2 to 4 seconds
      • Decreased the Dash cooldown from 6 to 4 seconds.

      • Added Zoom in/out with scroll wheel

      • Change camera modes with Hotkey 1, 2 and 3

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a bug where they Health UI would display incorrectly
  • Fixed a bug where players could get stuck and become unable to move after taking 2 points of damage in quick succession.
  • Fixed a bug with Music Sequencer where it would abruptly play the next song without properly finishing.
  • Fixed a bug where the bomb and hotpotato would not damage players, even when they were within the explosion radius.

We have worked very hard over the last few weeks to remove many bugs and polish existing systems. We will also begin hosting livestreams and opening up the game to a few more players.

0.6.0 - Social features

Hello everyone! Here comes another patch for you. We’ve added our own friend system and removed the Steam integration we previously used.

You can now create a party of up to 3 players and queue into a server together.

This patch also includes many ability changes and tweaks, which may lead to some new bugs or unexpected behavior. Please report any bugs you encounter on our Discord server :)

Social

  • Friends System
    • Add friends.
    • Remove friends.
    • Block/unblock friends.
    • Block players.
    • View friend profiles.
  • Party System
    • The first version of our party system is now live with a temporary programmer UI.

Matchmaking

  • We have rewritten the matchmaking rules from scratch, so match pairing should now work more effectively.

Gameplay

  • Improvements to match beats, podium placements, etc.
  • Updated the level streaming system, which should resolve replication issues we’ve encountered.
  • Additional match music has been added.

Abilities

  • Swap Place
    • Added a cast distance limit.
    • If the caster and the target exceed the cast distance, the Swap Place ability will "break," preventing the teleport. This was added to provide a countermeasure to the Swap Place ability without requiring a specific "counter ability."
    • New visuals have been added.
  • Bomb
    • Reduced cast time from 0.8 to 0.4 seconds.
    • Increased size from 1000 to 1500.
    • Lowered cooldown from 15s to 10s.
  • Hack
    • New visuals have been added.
  • Power Boost
    • New visuals have been added.
    • Updated sound effects (SFX).
  • Yoyo
    • Reduced cast time for improved responsiveness.
  • Mega Jump
    • Increased jump power.
    • Lowered gravity when the player starts falling, allowing the player to float towards the ground and capitalize on being airborne longer.
    • Updated SFX.
  • Hot Potato
    • Reduced cast time from 0.8 to 0.4 seconds.
    • Increased size from 800 to 1000.
    • If the ball explodes near its target, it will swap to a new target so the player avoids being hit by both the explosion and the ball. However, if the ball is close enough, it can still hit the player even after switching targets, leading to the player losing two health points.
  • Place Jump Pad
    • Reduced cast time from 0.8 to 0.4 seconds.
    • Increased jump pad duration from 3s to 6s.
    • Reduced cast time (Note: already mentioned earlier, consider removing or combining).

0.5.0 - Work in Progress

Hello everyone,

We’ve been hard at work updating our existing systems and adding some new features. While these are still in progress, we felt it was important to get a new stable build out for testing.


So, here’s a fresh “stable” build for you! As the patch notes suggest, this update includes several work-in-progress systems and features. We’ve also made some under-the-hood changes to how certain things operate, so you might encounter some breakages along the way. 🙂

Party System and matchmaking

  • You can now invite your Steam friends to your lobby and queue up together.
  • We now display how many players are currently in the queue.
  • We have added multi-region support that we will test out.

Loadout

  • We’ve begun work on how abilities are equipped:
  • We have added a bunch of color variations to existing skins
  • Several new weapons and weapon variations
  • The UI now displays a hotbar of abilities. To equip an ability, simply select an ability you own and then choose the slot in the hotbar where you want it equipped.

Gameplay

  • You can now use a select amount of abilities in the Spectators lobby
  • We've made adjustments to how certain abilities function. Now, you’ll see a projectile being thrown from the player towards the target position. Currently, the projectile travels very slowly, but we’ll speed it up in a future update.
  • Reworked and added visual effects (VFX) for abilities that were missing them.
  • Game state improvements
    • Podium for match/round winner
    • Clearer beats when the match is changing states

Optimizations

  • All arenas have undergone an optimization pass for better performance.
  • Added a precompiler of Shaders to reduce in-game stuttering.

Camera

  • We've added a system that hides objects between your camera and character, so you should no longer have a face full of grass when looking up in the Bamboo Forest arena.

Bots

  • Bots have been improved and will no longer clump together in the middle of the arena.
  • Their reaction times have been enhanced, making them better at deflecting the ball.
  • Bots are now able to dash.

Menu

  • New Main Menu UI has been implemented (skin variations)
  • Saving game settings to lootlocker

Website

  • Website has been created and made public

  • Bomb visuals
  • Mega Jump visuals
  • Double Jump visuals

0.4.0 - Patch 2

Ball

  • Ball top speed reduced slightly
  • Ball turning speed at high speeds slightly increased (this should remove some cases where the ball was turning very quickly into players when getting close, even though it looked like it was about to pass by the player)

Arenas

  • Nepal got a visual update

Ability changes

Power Boost

  • Increased the duration during which the player can get more hits in while the ability is active.
  • Increased power from 60% to 100%.

Swap Place

  • Added more feedback to the Swap Place ability.

Place Bomb & Place Jump Pad

  • Both abilities have had their placement logic updated and should now be more precise when being placed.
  • Place Bomb now has a mesh.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the Swap Place ability did not teleport both players.
  • Fixed an issue where you would lose mouse control of your character after spectating.
  • Fixed an issue with several UI widgets overlapping.
  • Fixed the collision on several levels.
  • Fixed the stop spectating prompt to show the correct button.
  • Fixed an issue where mouse sensitivity was tied to FPS.

0.3.0 - Patch 1

Hello everyone, and thank you again for playing and helping us test MLC. Here are our very first patch notes for you. A lot of the changes were made based on the feedback we got from you. The notes don’t include all the changes there are several performance, audio, art, & gameplay changes not listed, so jump in and see what else we did.

UNIQUE DEV WEAPON SKIN

There is currently a unique weapon skin called the 'Ban Hammer' available in the game for developers. It was added to your profile when you started the game! Only developers and very early testers will have access to this skin. Thanks for playing!

NEW CONTENT

Weapon skins

  • Marshmallow on a stick
  • Rainbow versions of the Katana, Spear, & Hammer
  • Fly swatter
  • New Exclusive BAN hammer skin, (This will only be given out during the company test period and friends and family test period)

Emote wheel

  • You can now open a early version of our emote wheel by pressing E,
  • Move your mouse to the emote you want to send and let go of E.

Note: The emote wheel currently only works with mouse and keyboard.

  • There is now a settings menu where you can lower the graphical settings to better match what your system can handle
  • There is now a settings menu for Audio

Ability Tags

  • In the loadout there are now Tags on every ability, hovering over these will give you more information on how an ability works

  • All abilities now have a short gif showing how the work

Screen Hack

  • Screen hack is now a amiable ability, and only hacks the person you are looking at when you activate the ability.
  • Increased CD

Yoyo

  • Yoyo can now be casted at anytime even if you were not the last player to touch the ball
  • Yoyo now has a short cast time to make it harder to use when standing very close to someone

Mimic

  • More feedback and brand new VFX to make it easier for player to spot which balls are fake

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed so players can’t escape the lobby on several levels
  • Fixed so you cant escape and hide from the ball on Nepal
  • Fixed and issue where Pressing Q while in spectate would crash the game
  • Fixed the ball missing its mesh when joining late
  • Fixed discord button
  • Fixed ball getting stuck inside players
  • Fixed Players getting hit and deflecting at the same time
  • Fixed Speedboost ability feeling laggy/jittery
  • Fixed Player getting hacked by the Screenhack ability while in the lobby
  • Fixed an issue where the player could get stuck in menus
